The Mokuba Free
Lace Sheet has a single sticky side covered by a protective paper and a
clear sheet to lay over the piece after you have placed the fibers and just
before you sew the piece.
When you are ready to begin, cut the free lace to the
dimensions that fit your piece. It is OK to place sheets end to end or
beside each other to make items that are longer or wider. Then, lay
the free lace sheet on a table and peel the protective paper from the sticky
sheet being sure you have the sticky side up. Begin placing yarn,
ribbons or other fibers and things in a pattern
pleasing to you.
When you've finished placing the fibers and ribbons, place
the clear sheet over the sticky one - this gives you a surface to stitch. Once you've sealed it with a quick hand smoothing over the
clear surface, begin stitching. You can stitch
any way you wish from a grid to swirls and
zigzags over the surface using decorative, clear
or plain thread. The
stitching should touch enough of the fibers to hold the piece together.
Once you're happy with your layout, take the whole thing and place it in
room temp water. The sticky stuff and the clear
stuff will both dissolve within a minute or so (continued rinsing for four minutes
or so will remove the remaining starchy
residue). Less soaking will leave
some body in the piece and work well for wall hangings.
